“O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.” (Psalms 107:1).
On Wednesday, November 5 through Friday, November 7, 2025, we will be engaging in our three days of Prayer and Fasting. Our goal is to be in fasting each day from 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
The focal point for our consecration is “A Posture of Gratitude.” As we enter these sacred days of prayer and fasting, we anchor our hearts in the truth of Psalms 136:1: “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.” This verse reminds us that thanksgiving is not just a seasonal act - it is a spiritual posture, a daily response to the unwavering goodness and mercy of our God.
It is important for us to pause and reflect on the goodness of the Lord over the past ten (10) months. The Lord has been gracious to us and has certainly preserved us up until this point. Who would imagine that we would be living in 2025? The thought is unfathomable! Let’s take the time to go down memory lane and really reflect on the goodness of the Lord.
Oftentimes, we dwell on our current circumstances - especially in times of crisis - and forget to reflect on God’s unfailing love. Even in the midst of dire circumstances, we must remember Christ’s act at Calvary. His sacrifice should continually humble us and lead us to live in a posture of praise and thanksgiving.
The month of November is coined as the time that we celebrate “Thanksgiving” but we should thank Him daily. Psalms 68:19 - “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation”. There is nothing that we can ever do to be deserving of God’s goodness. Giving of thanks does however show forth our gratitude to Him for His goodness.
Psalms 136 is a hymn of thanksgiving and praise, celebrating God’s consistent goodness and enduring steadfast love. Each verse echoes the refrain of His mercy, inviting us to remember, rejoice, and respond with heartfelt gratitude:
Psalms 136: 1-3: is a Call to Thanksgiving and God's Supremacy: The psalm opens with a triple call to give thanks to the Lord, the "God of gods" and the "Lord of lords" establishing His ultimate authority over all other potential deities and rulers.
Psalms 136:4-9: speaks of God the Creator: The focus shifts to God's wonders in creation, including making the heavens, the earth, the sun, moon, and stars. This section emphasizes God's power and wisdom as the sole architect of the universe, contrasting Him with the limited gods of other nations.
Psalms 136:10-22: speaks of God the Redeemer in History: This part recounts the history of Israel's deliverance, from the plagues of Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea to their journey through the wilderness and the defeat of kings like Sihon and Og. These historical acts of judgment and salvation are presented as evidence of God' s  covenant love and faithfulness to His people.
Psalms 136: 23-26: shows God the Sustainer and Universal Provider: The Psalm concludes by reflecting on God's ongoing, personal care, noting that He remembers His people in their "low estate", rescues them from their foes, and provides food for all living creatures. The final verse is a universal call to thank the"God of Heaven"
As the Psalmist recollects on the goodness of the Lord, we too can  reminisce on God’s faithfulness to us as believers. So, during this period of consecration, let us take some time to reflect on all of God’s benefits toward us. Romans 5:8 reminds us that “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Therefore, if God loved us while we were yet sinners, how much more is His love toward us now that we are saved? He sacrificed His life, which gives us an opportunity to obtain eternal life. Hence, let us live in a posture of gratitude.
As we embark on these three days of fasting and prayer, let us maintain a posture of thanksgiving.
