In June, we will hold a solemn, one-day congregational prayer and fasting event on the first three Wednesdays—June 3rd, 10th, and 17th. The goal is for the church to fast and pray collectively, centered on specific objectives, starting each Wednesday at 5:00 AM and ending at 5:00 PM.
Under the theme “Pressed into Purpose,” we draw upon the sacred words of 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;”
As believers, we face many obstacles as we live out our Christian lives. The trials and tribulations that we encounter are designed to press us into our God- given purpose. Purpose is defined as God’s overarching, eternal plan for creation, and humanity’s specific calling to glorify Him. Rather than being self- made, our purpose is viewed as a divine design. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “ For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (NLT). Oftentimes, we as believers have our lives mapped out. However, we are not our own; we have been purchased by the efficacious blood of Jesus Christ at Calvary. When Jesus declared, “It is finished,” he announced that God’s plan of salvation was complete and humanity’s redemption was secured forever. This act at Calvary should never be diminished but should be revered by us, yielding our plans into the capable hands of the Lord.
Therefore, we must ensure that His will and purpose are upheld at all times; this is the only way we can fulfill our created purpose. In order for wine to manifest, the grapes must be pressed. For gold to become something we admire, it must go through being melted at high temperature, pressed with heavy machinery, hammered, rolled and soldered.
As the body of Christ, we must also go through our process before we can become the righteousness of Christ. The process we are subjected to is designed to push us into our purpose. Joseph’s journey entailed suffering and betrayal before reaching a place of blessing. His purpose was to preserve life for his family, the Israelites and even the Egyptians. His process took him from the pit, Poitier’s house, prison and then into the palace. Romans 8:18 assures us that all of the earthly pain, trial, or difficulty we face are temporary and will be insignificant when weighed against the eternal glory God will reveal. The Apostle Paul concluded that no matter how severe our current struggles feel, they are “not worthy to be compared” to the eternal, heavenly rewards and perfected state awaiting believers. So, my brothers and sister just endure your process and allow the Lord to fulfill His purpose and plans in your life; It will be well worth it! Remember, no cross, no crown.
